Meine Bilder/ My Pictures
Already as a small boy I was a very curious but dreamy child whose thoughts dwelt in the parallel worlds of the Indians, of pirates, of discoverers or wandered about in virgin forests. These fantasies would be acted out with other children or found their expression in drawings and paintings when weather conditions forced me to remain indoors. I was fascinated by nature´s innumerable miracles such as the
mysterious metamorphosis of the butterflies. I became a passionate explorer and collector. Nature taught me to observe precisely, to be patient, especially at the prospect of a sensational event. This ability as well as scrupulousness, discipline and the striving for perfection characterize myself as a person and as an artist till today. Later on, in quest of beauty and happiness I turned my attention more and more to girls, still rather shy. My girl-friend and my sisters posed for me as
nude models and I took photos of them in the way I had studied in illustrated books and magazines. During that period the first clearly erotic paintings were achieved, colorful gouaches in a pop art style. Only today I fully understand that my choice of career was motivated by a strong desire. I longed to be a really good draughtsman to capture my
mostly erotic dreams. Although having studied graphic design I had to acquire the ability to illustrate largely on my own. Initially I adopted the airbrush technique which had enormously gained in popularity among illustrators at the time. I struggled with that technique to reach perfection – but after all the results did not appeal to me they looked too smooth and unrealistic. Today the spraygun is employed as only one of several technical and artistic components such as the hairbrush, pencils and coloured pencils, often along with a beautifully structured, sometimes coloured drawing paper.
For a new artwork I always started with a pencil sketch on tracing paper developing a new composition with the help of a great number of photos. The picture then takes shape in a long scrupulous creative process, motivated by the love of work and the anticipated pleasure at the result. I look upon the original as a precious treasure which preserves a good deal of my qualities and abilities. My ambition is to remain faithful to my aesthetic principles and to create pictures with a classical aura. My works therefore prefer the example of classical painting to that of pin-ups or fantasy art. For me a picture turned
out well if you derive a lasting pleasure from it. Among friends, collectors and myself as my sharpest critic a great number of my pictures met these expectations.
